Here's a peek at a project I'm working on slowly when I'm not prodding Garden along.
Someday You Will Be Loved
Summary: What if Edward’s motivation for leaving Bella wasn’t to keep her safe after all? When her birthday goes fine, but things still fall apart, who will be there to pick up the pieces?
AU, JxB.
They arrived at her house in a matter of moments, and she waited for Edward to come around and open her door. “I’ll just be a few minutes,” Bella said, tiptoeing up to kiss his cheek before dashing inside. She carefully made her way up the stairs and tossed her backpack on the bed, reaching underneath for the duffel bag she often carried with her for overnight trips to Edward’s. She’d even finally just bought a second bottle of shampoo and conditioner to just leave in the bag, though Edward had allotted her space in his bathroom for all her things. She just didn’t want to feel like she was taking over his space, and so, packed a bag each time.
Realizing that neither of them had followed her, she frowned as she threw underwear and bras into the bag; it was unusual for Alice to not help her pack or Edward to not want to be with her. She shrugged, dismissing the thought. Alice had just had a vision and she probably wanted to discuss it with Edward without his bothersome human girlfriend in the way.
Bella didn’t bother with pajamas, since she’d gotten used to sleeping in Edward’s boxers and a t-shirt (having his scent around helped her sleep when he was hunting), and she was planning on stealing a new set to replace the ones she’d recently laundered and returned. She kept her clothes simple, knowing from experience that Alice would just replace everything anyway if she didn’t approve of what Bella planned to wear.
She zipped up her bag and slung it over her shoulder, taking the stairs even more carefully down. Bella ducked into the kitchen to pull out a couple of pre-made and frozen casseroles for dinner while she was gone and scribbled the instructions on the white board she’d gotten for the fridge, since it was the one place they’d both eventually end up looking for notes. Charlie would be okay without the meals, but it made her feel like she was still looking after him, even if she wasn’t home; he’d just order pizza or make a sandwich, though she knew he appreciated the home-cooked meals.
Bella locked the door behind her and stepped onto the front porch. Alice and Edward appeared to still be locked in deep discussion about something, so Bella shuffled her feet a bit more loudly than necessary, both to keep from falling, and to alert them to her presence.
When Edward looked up, his smile was tight, his eyes a darker shade of topaz, though Alice was still looking like her bouncy bubbly self.
“Everything alright?” she asked as Edward lifted her bag from her shoulder and carried it around to the trunk.
“Yes,” Alice answered, shooting Edward a look. “Let’s get this party started!”

Usually I don't feel too good about reading J/B fics. It just feels "wrong" somehow. But I have made exceptions a few times, and this is holding enough intrigue to make me want to read more. Can't wait to see where you take this one.
